Free SCHOOL MEALS UPDATE

The situation with free school meals has evolved during the closure period. Details of the various schemes are below, starting with the new Government scheme:

Government Voucher Scheme (Current scheme)

The Government free school meals scheme has now started. It is being administered by schools.

On Saturday 4th April, the Government announced that this voucher scheme (worth £15 per child per week) would be extended to cover the Easter holiday period). We are now working on processing additional voucher codes to cover these extra two weeks as well as issuing the remaining codes for the first week back after Easter. Codes are issued to parental email addresses.

If your daughter is entitled to free school meals, you must complete this simple online form https://tinyurl.com/BGGSvoucher.  The email address must belong to one of the child's main carers e.g. mother, father, main carer and they must live at the same address as the child. We cannot use email addresses for other adults, parents who do not live with the child or the child's own email address.

If you have an iPhone, you can open the Camera app and scan this QR code to go to the online website to give us your email address. (Android phones can also scan the code but will need a QR code app):

Information about the scheme can be found here.

Interim Birmingham City Council Voucher Scheme

This scheme has now ended.

The Council agreed to fund provision across the city to enable schools to support families locallyThis arrangement covered the week commencing Monday 30th March as an interim measure until the Government scheme started. Voucher codes issued under this scheme were worth £15 per child per week. These were all sent out from the school by Thursday 2nd April.

Initial arrangements for free meals made by BGGS

This scheme ended on Friday 3rd April.

  • Packed lunches could be ordered via the Call & Collect service: call 0121 464 1881 before 10.30 am to place you first order. You only need to re-order via the Call & Collect every three days. Last orders for Call and Collect could be placed on Friday 3rd April.

  • Students could collect the food between 12 noon and 3pm.

  • Families could use our Call & Collect service every three calendar days. This meant that we were providing some students with food over the weekend - but we decided to cover the cost of that.
