Year 9 must self-isolate
29th September 2020
Dear Parent / Carer
I regret to inform you that we were informed today that a Year 9 student has tested positive for COVID-19. We have been liaising with Public Health England and the local Health Protection Team. We have also contacted the new Department for Education Coronavirus helpline. Following their guidance, we must now act with the safety and wellbeing of all as our priority.
All Year 9 students will need to self-isolate for a period of 14 days from the last time of contact (Friday 25th September). Year 9 students will return to school on Monday 12th October 2020.
Year 9 lessons will take place through Firefly and online via Microsoft Teams from 30th September.
This Year 9 case follows on from 2 previous positive COVID cases in Year 8 and 1 student in Sixth Form having tested positive last.
What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-acoronavirus-test or by calling 119. All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.
Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home. Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community.
Further information is available at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid19/
For clarity, school remains open to all students in Year 7, 8, 10 and 11. We expect full attendance from all students in these years. We send our best wishes to the Year 9 student.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
